Okay, so maybe you've heard that they don't have breakfast foods here. This is
partially true. They do, indeed, have some foods that are unique to the morning hours, or at least more frequent during the first half of the day. If you're looking for toast, bacon, cereal, or pancakes, though, forget it! In fact, you won't find anything like any traditional Western breakfast item ANY time of the day, aside from eggs (NOT your typical styles) or a sort of donut-imposter.

And yes, they do enjoy many of the same items for breakfast that they might eat the rest of the day. Above is my plate at the fancy breakfast buffet Laney and I ate at across from our hotel when I had to take her to the big city to see the dentist. I was going to try the "spiced chicken feet," but I decided it wasn't the best timing for me to try something
quite so new as I navigated a city of 6 million by myself with virtually no language skills... But I'm sure I'll have plenty of other opportunities!

Street vendors like this pretty lady are common all throughout the day, selling a variety of fried tofu-sicles, spicy potatoes, and imitation hot-dogs. (Yeah, they're about 5 steps lower than the worst Western dogs... no idea how they pulled that off!)
The "tea eggs" can be found boiling on a step on nearly every street. It's a pretty safe bet, as at least you know it's been boiled! It's actually one of the comforts of our new home to walk down the alley and see the steam rising from so many shop fronts.
